Sound & Fury's "Dr. Whom"

Reviewed By: Cindy Murdoch

Sound & Fury have built up a reputation for their scripted parodies of classic films and TV shows, and this year they are spoofing the classic sci-fi series Doctor Who.  But this time they mix things up by adding improv to the show.  While they have a general idea of where they want the plot to end, the story is different every night thanks to audience suggestions and participation.  In the performance I saw, we were transported first to Hogwarts to save the planet Xerox.  Then we set out on a journey to Lower Fort Garry to speak with a two-headed expert who sets us on a quest to collect the items needed to save the planet: a sword from the beatniks in 1961, a baseball bat from a mental institution in 1982, and a pair of fuzzy dice from Mordor.  The improvisation adds to the show, making it unpredictably ridiculous. As usual, the performers are solid and quick on their feet.  Also, the design of the tardis, daleks, cybermen and the props are good for a real laugh.  A solidly funny improvised show that is sure to entertain, this one is definitely worth checking out.
