Fresher: The Musical

Reviewed By: Justin Olynyk

July 26 2012

Fresher tells the story of five young people living in an English dormitory. This show is a mess from start to finish. Director Kayla Gordon decides to have the actors speak with English accents but sing in their regular voices which really forces the audience to suspend their credibility. The opening song is a choreographic nightmare as the characters are criss-crossing each other to get to their designated area. Another song, Rupert’s Lament, starts off as a sad song but quickly turns into a comedy routine which emotionally confuses the audience. This show reminded me of a hangover – you’re not really sure what happened. Anyway, there are far better shows available at this year’s Fringe.
