Beauty and the Beast

Venue 9 – The Rachel Browne Theatre (WCD Studio)

Beauty and the Beast is a love story between a young girl named Beauty and a hideous looking ogre named Beast. Of course, this is an opera, which means the dialogue is sung not spoken.

This production is visually stunning with lovely costumes and nice sets. Micheline Girardin has lovely vocal range as Beauty. However, this is a flawed production. At times, I had trouble hearing the singing over the live piano player. And, this production also missed some of the comedy in the father’s character. The father needed to show more emotions but was unfortunately emotionally flat.
