Blade

Venue 13– Ragpickers Theatre

In Blade, young women are being mysteriously killed In Winnipeg. Another murder occurs and the media automatically assumes the victim is a prostitute while the victim’s friends try to set the record straight.

Yvette Nolan’s intelligent script is a scathing attack at how both the police and the media over sensationalize these incidents. Also, give credit to director Eileen Longfield for staging a convincing murder scene with particular attention paid to the small details.

Stephanie Moroz is amazing as Angela. She has incredible pausing and reacts wonderfully to what other people are saying about her. Unfortunately, I found the character of the killer to be too weak. I think the killer needed to show stronger emotions, such as obsession, especially when he is being interviewed by the police.
