Crude Love

Venue 17 – PTE Colin Jackson Studio

Crude Love is a love story between an activist (Abbie) and a truck driver (Phyllis) set in the Alberta tar sands. Abbie is an idealist who believes oil companies are evil whereas Phyllis is a realist who is working as a truck driver because it pays good money.

I didn’t care for this play because I thought the story was entirely predictable. The two characters start off as polar opposites but eventually each begins to understand the other person’s viewpoint. However, there are some beautifully awkward moments when the two characters connect while spending a night in nature.
