A Lovely Surprise

I saw The Dining Room at the ACT (Association of Community Theatres) Festival in Binscarth in May. One of the performers that I kept my eyes on was Meagan Chopek. Her mannerisms were incredible. Director Maureen Taggart told me this great story about how they found Meagan. Meagan’s aunt called up Maureen one day and mentioned that Meagan was looking to do more serious theatre (she has been involved in a lot of comedies with her church group). So, Maureen told her to come down and read. She liked what she saw and Meagan was cast in several of the scenes. As Maureen told me, she was a lovely surprise.

Sign of the Day

Walking up the stairs to the Rudolf Rocker Cultural Centre (Venue 22) for Remember the Night, I noticed this great sign – “Stair climbing will be rewarded by air conditioning.”

Time Change

To quote Dickens, last night was “the best of times and the worst of times.” Dr. Faustus ran only 60 minutes, or 30 minutes less than its scheduled 90 minutes. I like when shows end early because it gives me time to relax, go to the washroom or grab a meal before the next show. Unfortunately, Remember the Night was 85 minutes, which is 10 minutes over their scheduled time of 75 minutes. This caused me to miss my 10 pm show. GRRRRRRR!

The Name He Couldn’t Name

After The Wizard of One, actor Neil James recommended other shows for the audience to see. He did mention that his girlfriend is in a show at this same venue (The Playhouse Studio) but couldn’t mention the name because children were present in the audience. In case you are interested, the show featuring Neil’s girlfriend is Pussy Sushi.
