You’re From Africa?

Chalk this next story up to childhood curiosity. During the Friday afternoon performance of African Folktales with Erik de Waal, a child starting asking actor Erik de Waal a series of questions. The child started off by asking “You’re from Africa?” Then asked “How did you get here?” Being a seasoned performer, Erik de Waal took it in good stride and answered the child’s questions. After about a minute of answering questions, he told the child that he had to continue with the show.

Call For Help

During the Saturday night performance of The Further Adventures of Antoine Feval, an audience member collapsed. Thankfully, fellow patrons called 911 and the paramedics arrived soon after and took the patron to hospital.

Save The Trees

I’ve noticed this year that fewer groups are giving out programs and handbilling people waiting in line. The environmentalist in me says great – let’s save those trees. But, the audience member in me would like to read a program before the show and see the director’s notes and who is in the cast. I know performer Alex Eddington, who is doing a show about saving trees called Old Growth, made a conscious decision not to print any handbills or programs to save paper. Instead, Alex is advertising his show through chalk lettering on the sidewalk. Here’s an eco-friendly idea - If groups want to save trees, why not print their programs on recycled paper?

Opera 101

At the start of Beauty and the Beast, the cast gave an introduction to the various voices found in a typical opera. Since many people in the audience were first time opera goers, I think it was a helpful introduction to the world of opera.
