Life on the Fringe Blog – July 23 Gender
Change Rachelle Fordyce initially wanted to perform Daniel MacIvor`s See Bob Run, but when she applied for the rights, she found out that someone else was doing the play at the Winnipeg Fringe. So, instead she applied to do MacIvor`s Wild Abandon, with the provision that the male character of Steve become the female character of Stevie. Fordyce believes that the character trying to put life into perspective is a universal concept and the dialogue could be spoken by either a man or woman. MacIvor`s agent allowed the gender change. Stage There’s an interesting trend happening at this year’s Fringe – a couple of shows include simulated sex scenes – FemMennonite 2: I MARRIED A JEW and Morro and Jasp do Puberty. Interestingly, both sex scenes involve a human being having sex with a doll. I guess the lesson here is the best partner is one that can’t talk back. Influential
Figures In Totem Figures, TJ Dawe talks about the people who have greatly influenced his life. Dawe bought a website www.totemfigures.com in which he hopes audience members will share stories about totem figures from their own lives. The website is not yet working but Dawe hopes to have it ready in a couple of months. Cabaret There will be a
