The Movies (abridged)

Venue 6 – Tom Hendry Theatre at the MTC Warehouse

This production certainly set itself a lofty goal, covering every major genre of movie ever made. And while I don't think they were serious about it, they did manage to cover quite a few of them in the course of the show.  This is sketch comedy and as you might expect some of the sketches were funnier than others.  All were delivered with high energy and at breakneck speed.  As a matter of fact the show ran about 10 minutes short of its advertised running time on the night I saw it.

The show did a good job of lampooning some of the shallowness of the movie biz.  One of my particular favourites was the sketch that covered the Die Hard movies, ending with Bruce Willis crying out for a new agent.  Rob Gee's send up of The Lord of the Rings takes about 10 seconds and, so as not to spoil the surprise, I will only say was one of the funniest parts of the show.  All of the actors are particularly adept at physical comedy which really added to the quality of the show.  There were a couple of scenes in questionable taste, but hey, this is the Fringe.  Overall this was a decent comedy with enough laughs to make it worth while viewing, particularly to movie buffs.
