Remember The Night

Venue 22 – Rudolf Rocker Cultural Centre

At the beginning of Remember The Night, a prostitute named Cindy dies and one of her clients named Fred is suspected of killing her.

This play is a very good film noir (or should I call it play noir). Daniel Thau Eleff’s play succeeds as a mystery, a comedy and a romance. Like any good mystery, it unfolds slowly, piece by piece. Add in several plot twists and you have an interesting story. A lot of the comedy from the characters – especially the 2 seniors and the 2 career criminals. Also, watching Fred’s character evolve from shy and nervous at the beginning to a more expressive person as he falls in love with Cindy was nice. But, perhaps the best part of the show was Arne MacPherson’s imaginative direction – moving the characters around for different scenes and using every inch of the venue. Remember The Night is one of my favourite plays at this year’s Fringe. Go see it.
