StranDEAD

Venue 13 – Ragpickers Theatre

A group of Winnipeggers are trapped on a roof of an apartment building. As time progresses, they insult each other, embarrassing secrets are revealed and they realize that gossip is not always true. The premature death of one of them causes the survivors to re-examine their own lives.

Even though the play is flawed, I still enjoyed the experience. The play moves along at a good pace, in spite of its many short scenes and blackouts. The small stage and humid venue of Ragpickers actually simulates quite well the experience of what it would be like to be trapped on the roof of a city building in the summer. Unfortunately, the play has too many characters (9 characters, including the dead person) and not all of the characters are fully developed. In particular, we don’t really find out that much about the maintenance person.
