Trojan Women

Venue 8 – School of Contemporary Dancers

After the Trojan war, the men of Troy have been killed and the women are left to make sense of the tragedy. We meet the seer Cassandra, the beautiful Helen and Andromache caring for her child.

This is an intelligent play that is worth seeing. First and foremost, this play looks at the silly reasons why countries go to war – love and national pride. Additionally, this play also looks at how the characters are affected by war. Some characters don’t change, while other characters refuse to accept reality. The only blemish on the play is that I thought they portrayed the character of Cassandra as a bit of a fool. Even though other characters might dismiss her visions, I think her character should show more passion and conviction than craziness.
