The Vajayjay Monologues Venue 4 – Onstage
at the Playhouse
Even
though The Vajayjay Monologues is a spoof of Eve Ensler’s play The
Vagina Monologues, it is still an interesting one womyn show. Writer/performer Lindsey Burns
delivers several monologues as different characters addressing how the vagina
came to be referred to as the vajayjay, a word recently coined in pop-culture
by Grey’s Anatomy and Oprah. While I
didn’t find this show to be overly hilarious, I did find it funny and
cute. Burns gives a strong
performance and the show was a considerable hit with the middle aged
crowd. It also raises some
important issues for womyn - in the ten years since Eve Ensler’s play,
feminist language and thought appears to be regressing in mainstream media
and culture. Overall, The Vajayjay
Monologues is an average Fringe show that’s worth a look. - Cindy Murdoch UMFM |
