At The Edge Of Canada: Indigenous Research
April 17, 2017
For the Final Show of the Winter 2017 season, our guest is Doctoral student Kate Kenyon from the Department of Clinical Psychology and the Faculty of Arts at the University of Manitoba. We discuss Kate’s recent designation as a University of Manitoba Emerging Leader and her incredibly important work in women’s shelters within Winnipeg by conducting qualitative research on the facilities role in developing empowerment through primary and secondary supports. We tackle empowerment as a theoretical concept, Indigenous methods of support, the demands of being a student at home, the ideal women’s shelter design, and the Indigenous graduate student experience in the current political climate today.
